Media Training
Scientists are playing an increasingly important role in the news. On the one hand, in classic television and radio formats, and on the other hand, online in podcasts and on video platforms. This also increases the demands on researchers. They have to explain complicated issues in simple terms, provide context for scientific facts and current events, take a stand and move into the focus as a person. Camera and microphone act as a magnifying lens and are an additional challenge, be it during a visit to the studio or an interview via video conference.
In the virtual media training, participants learn how to take an active role and what they should bear in mind when working with the media. They gain basic knowledge in the field of science communication and gain practical experience in numerous individual and group exercises. Video and audio analyses enable participants to identify their individual weaknesses and strengths and to optimise their communication. They will be supported by experienced, active journalists who will be able to report first-hand on everyday media life.
Thematic focus areas of the seminar are:
- Science meets media – Knowing the requirements
- On Air! – Convincing with your voice
- On camera – Consciously using your impact
- Finding the core message – Knowledge in a nutshell
- Inspiring an audience – What does the target group need?
- Experiencing formats – From audio podcasts to live television broadcasts
Technical information
The seminar is implemented with the video conferencing software „Zoom“.
If exercises are integrated into the seminar context, they will be carried out as Google Office solutions (e.g. google docs, sheets, slides or google forms). These applications are used within the framework of the GDPR-compliant corporate solution Google G-Suite. Participants do not need their own Google account for this.
To participate in the interactive seminar, participants need a working microphone and camera on their PC/laptop. It is necessary that participants switch on the camera and microphone during the seminar.
