Participatory Science Communication
Modern science communication is part of a complex interplay between science and a wide variety of social requirements. At this intersection, scientific data, social sciences analyses, societal opinions and political priorities come together. Participatory science communication can help to successfully organize a constructive exchange between the various groups, stakeholders and perspectives involved and to enable mutual learning and knowledge co-production.
The seminar is aimed at scientists who have already gained initial experience in science communication and want to familiarize themselves with participatory methods and learn how to apply them. The seminar will enable participants to navigate the jungle of theories and buzzwords surrounding the topic of participation. In addition, they will learn about the possible applications and strengths of participatory formats and develop concrete approaches for participatory science communication in their own field of research.
The training is designed to be interactive. Teaching content alternates with practical exercises and question-and-answer sessions.
The seminar will focus on the following aspects:
- Overview of forms and selected theoretical aspects of participation
- Goals / added value and areas of application of participatory science communication
- Overview of formats of participatory science communication
- Development of a concept for a participatory approach for your own work
- Identification of suitable participatory formats for your own science communication, including advice for practical implementation
